Columbia Metro Rotary Club
President's Message
As we launch our 16th year I want to stress what I hope we can accomplish this coming year with a well-known public relations statement: Working together so something good may happen.
I can’t think of them all, but some of those ways would be listening to each other, empowering others, passing information along and having a sense of organization that will coalesce with those good things happening.
Our committee chairs have been formed, and I have asked each of these people to select their own committee members, and then report those names to me and to Bill Costello, Cindy Whaley and Jim Sharrock, the others who serve on your executive committee.
I’m also suggesting we use our combined talents to build membership with additional responsible, outgoing and active people – and to focus on orientation, mentoring, getting new members involved quickly – trying out new ways to get things done properly.
Occasionally during the year we’ll hold meetings where no scheduled speaker will be taking center stage. This special days will allow more time for us to network and get to know each other better. I’m also suggesting we work closer with the other clubs, to get the word out about Rotary – what it is and what it does that sets it apart.
Finally, I want us all to have a good time interacting and working together for the causes of Rotary. In part, this would mean holding a greater number of after-hours get-togethers. This is a job for the Fellowship Committee, but anyone can make the suggestion (as to time and place.)
Thank you for your confidence; together I’m sure we can make this a significant year and another step forward for Metro Rotary and the good works of Rotary International.
